Xerocomus pelletieri (Lév.) Bresinsky & Manfr. Binder

(= Phylloporus p., Phylloporus rhodoxanthus subsp. europaeus)

Fruit body: cap up to 8 cm, rounded then expanded and depressed, velvety, yellow-brown to red-brown. Hymenophore consists of thick, golden-yellow, branched anastomotic gills (which from distance are reminiscent of angular spores). Stem is up to 8x2 cm, fibrous, redish in upper part, yellowish towards narrower base.

Microscopy: spores subfusiform, 11—13x4—5 μm, yellow-green individually, brown-olive en masse.

Flesh: yellowish, slightly or not becoming red when cut, without distinct smell and taste.

Habitat: in moss under oak (Quercus), on acidic terrains. Very rare.

Edibility: edible.
